The 228 Peace Memorial Park is a municipal park and memorial located in Taipei’s Zhongzheng District. The park commemorates the so-called February 28 Incident, when a group of civilians took over the radio station housed there at the time in an effort to broadcast their grievances against the government. The government’s response was swift and led to a number of deaths. The memorial to the fallen was designed by Taiwanese architect Cheng Tzu-tsai and it stands as a powerful reminder of Taiwan’s commitment remembering its past.
